Grasshoppers Rout Tourists 15-0 in Lopsided Defeat

The Greensboro Grasshoppers stormed past the Tourists 15-0 on Tuesday night, handing Asheville its largest margin of defeat at home in 2026.

Greensboro's offense was relentless from the start. Wyatt Sanford opened the scoring with a leadoff home run in the top of the first, his 14th of the season. The Grasshoppers tacked on more in the frame courtesy of an Eddie King Jr. RBI single, a two-run Jhonny Severino homer that pushed his league-leading total to 31, and a Tony Blanco Jr. solo shot to make it 5-0 before Asheville came to bat.

Greensboro kept the pressure on all night, scoring in six of the nine innings and finishing with 18 hits as a team. Jack Anker earned the win for the Grasshoppers, striking out four over four scoreless innings. Anker was the star of a stretch where Asheville had 17 straight batters retired.

Asheville's pitching staff was stretched thin. Nick Potter exited after just 11 pitches with an injury, and the Tourists turned to five relievers to get through the game, including catcher Yosweld Vasquez, who took the mound in the ninth inning.

At the plate, DJ Newman was the lone bright spot for Asheville, going 3-for-3 with three singles. He accounted for all three of the Tourists' hits on the night, as Asheville was outhit 18-3. The two other Asheville base runners reached on errors.

The loss also snapped two notable streaks for Asheville: a 54-game streak of scoring at least one run and a 54-game streak of drawing a walk.

The Tourists look to regroup Wednesday with Javier Perez on the mound against Greensboro's Levi Sterling, first pitch set for 6:35 p.m.
