Mitch Voit’s Eighth-Inning Two-Run Double Pushes Binghamton Past New Hampshire in Pitcher’s Duel

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (32-29) notched just two hits, but Mitch Voit played hero with a go-ahead two-run double in the eighth inning to beat the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (23-38), 2-0, at Mirabito Stadium on Friday night.

Binghamton and New Hampshire were tied at 0-0 into the bottom of the eighth inning. Right-hander Kelena Sauer (L, 1-4) entered for the Fisher Cats and hit Binghamton right fielder JT Benson to lead-off the frame, the third time Benson reached base. Benson then stole second base, his second of the night and first baseman Jamari Baylor followed with a walk.

Shortstop Mitch Voit stepped into the box and delivered the eventual game-winning two-run double to put Binghamton in front 2-0. It snapped an 0-for-11 stretch for Voit and it was his 12th double at Double-A.

Binghamton right-hander Luke Gabrysh, and New Hampshire right-hander Nolan Perry put on a clinic over the first 5.0 innings.

Gabrysh made his third Double-A start and delivered 5.0 scoreless frames and allowed just two hits with no walks and five strikeouts.

The New York Mets No. 28 prospect threw five pitches in the third inning, seven in the fourth and just nine pitches in the fifth inning. It is the second time he has finished 5.0 innings with Binghamton.

Perry, the Toronto Blue Jays No. 2 prospect, took the mound for New Hampshire. Perry tossed 5.0 no-hit innings with a Double-A career-high eight strikeouts and just two walks.

In the sixth inning, Binghamton right-hander Bryce Jenkins handed in a scoreless frame with two strikeouts.

New Hampshire gave the ball to right-hander Aaron Munson in the bottom half of the sixth-inning and Binghamton cashed in their first hit of the game. Second baseman Eddison Paulino, who played in 97 games with the Fisher Cats in 2025, chalked up a single. Paulino was caught stealing and after Munson walked third baseman Jefferson Rojas with two-outs, he worked out of the inning.

Jenkins came out for the seventh inning and after first baseman Carter Cunningham singled, Binghamton turned a double-play. It was the first time at Double-A Jenkins recorded an out in his second inning of work and he struck out third baseman Tucker Toman to cap-off the outing.

Munson faced the minimum in the bottom of the seventh inning with two strikeouts to keep the game tied at 0-0 with both teams at just four combined hits through seven frames.

Binghamton right-hander Carlos Guzman (W, 6-1) entered for the eighth inning, and faced the minimum as he only walked left fielder JR Freethy. Center fielder Mathieu Vallee had an inning ending groundout, and left the game hurt. Victor Arias replaced him in center field in the eighth inning.

Right-hander Garett Stratton (S, 7) appeared in the ninth inning and notched his seventh save of the season and has gone scoreless in nine straight appearances.

Binghamton was out-hit for the fourth time in the series, 4-2, but still leads the series, 3-1. The Rumble Ponies sit 4.0 games out of first place following Friday night’s win. A Reading Fightin Phils loss to Hartford on Friday would move Binghamton to within 3.5 games of first place, while a Fightin Phils win would keep the Rumble Ponies 4.5 games back.

The Rumble Ponies continue a six-game series with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Double-A, Toronto Blue Jays) on Saturday at Mirabito Stadium. First pitch is set for 6:07 p.m and the game will be broadcast on MiLB.TV, News Radio 1290 AM & 92.1 FM, and on the WNBF News Radio App.
