LAWRENCEVILLE, GA – The Charlotte Knights were unable to close out the Gwinnett Stripers on Saturday evening and fell by a final score of 5-3. Charlotte built a 3-0 lead, although Gwinnett cut it down to one heading into the bottom of the eighth. The home team then rallied for three more runs in the frame and claimed victory.

All three of the Knights’ runs came in the top of the third inning. Riley Unroe’s two-run triple opened the scoring while Ryan Galanie’s RBI double padded the lead.

Shane Murphy held the Stripers offense in check through 5.1 innings. The lefty surrendered a pair of runs, one in the third and one in the sixth, but departed with the Knights in front. Huascar Brazoban followed Murphy with 1.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

After the Stripers rallied for three runs in the eighth, Garrett Schoenle entered and closed out the frame. Caden Connor brought the tying run to the plate with a ninth inning single, but the Knights were unable to mount a comeback.

Charlotte can still win the series outright with a victory in Sunday’s finale. Both teams have a quick turnaround with the afternoon affair slated to begin at 1:05pm ET.
