COLUMBUS, OH – Columbus first baseman/outfielder Ralphy Velazquez has been named the International League Player of the Month for the period of August 2026, as announced today by Minor League Baseball. He is just the second member of the Clippers this decade to be honored as the IL Player of the Month, joining Will Benson (July 2022). Prior to Benson, the most recent Clippers to earn IL Player of the Month honors were Bobby Bradley (May 2019) and Jesús Aguilar (August 2014).

Velazquez, just 21 years old, batted .356/.433/.867 and led all of professional baseball (Major Leagues and Minor Leagues) in home runs (15) and was tied for the lead in RBI (34). He led the International League in slugging percentage (.867) and OPS (1.300) and was 2nd in total bases (78). He finished 3rd in average (.356), was 4th in runs (23) and 5th in hits (32). He recorded eight multi-hit games and his first career three-homer game on August 22 against St. Paul. He hit safely in 12 straight games from August 4-20.

Columbus went 15-11 during the month of August as Velazquez led the way. He was also named the International League Player of the Week for the period of August 18-23, as he hit .455 with six homers and 12 RBI over six games against St. Paul.

For the entire 2026 season including his time at Double-A Akron, Velazquez is batting .294 and has already established new career-highs with 28 home runs and 89 RBI.

Velazquez, who hails from Huntington Beach, California, is the highest ranked prospect currently playing in the Guardians minor league system according to MLB.com. Already a two-time veteran of the MLB All-Star Futures Game, Velazquez was originally selected by Cleveland in the 1st round of the 2023 MLB Draft out of Huntington Beach High School. He has yet to make his Major League debut.
