CORPUS CHRISTI - Springfield snapped a 2-2 tie by scoring six runs in the eighth inning Sunday afternoon as the Cardinals bested the Hooks, 8-2, before 4,763 fans in the 2026 finale at Whataburger Field.
James Hicks turned in his fourth quality start of the year, holding Springfield to a Jesús Báez two-run homer over a season-high 6 2/3 innings. The first Hook to pitch 6.0 frames since Bryce Mayer on August 1, Hicks scattered five hits and struck out seven without issuing a walk.
Sam Houston State Bearkat Michael Watson led the Springfield bullpen as four relievers teamed to hold the Hooks hitless over 5 1/3 scoreless innings.
Corpus Christi's offense was supplied by Chase Call who homered for a second consecutive day. Marcus Brown singled to open the third and Call crushed the next pitch over the scoreboard in left at an exit velocity of 112 MPH.
