Dragons Nestor Lorant Selected as MWL Pitcher of the Week

DAYTON, OHIO—Dayton Dragons starting pitcher Nestor Lorant has been selected as the Midwest League Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 4-10, 2026. Lorant (luh-RANT) made one start during the week, tossing seven shutout innings at West Michigan on Friday, May 8 to earn the win. He allowed

DAYTON, OHIO—Dayton Dragons starting pitcher Nestor Lorant has been selected as the Midwest League Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 4-10, 2026.

Lorant (luh-RANT) made one start during the week, tossing seven shutout innings at West Michigan on Friday, May 8 to earn the win. He allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out seven. Lorant has not allowed a run over his last three outings and has a consecutive inning scoreless streak of 19.2 innings.

Lorant was the Cincinnati Reds 2024 Minor League Pitcher of the Year. In 2026 with the Dragons, Lorant is 2-2 with a 2.05 earned runs average that ranks fourth in the MWL. He is tied for third in the league in strikeouts with 40 in 30.2 innings.

Lorant is a 24-year-old native of San Felix, Venezuela. He was signed by the Reds as an international free agent in 2019.

The Dragons (19-14) return home tonight to Day Air Ballpark in the heart of the Water Street District to begin a six-game series against the Lake County Captains (15-17) at 7:05 pm. Beau Blanchard (3-2, 4.28) will start for the Dragons. The Dragons are coming off a six-game road series sweep at West Michigan.
