Errors Haunt Delmarva in Defeat to Kannapolis
KANNAPOLIS, NC: The Delmarva Shorebirds (44-83, 21-40) began their final series of the regular season with a 6-2 loss to the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers (67-60, 34-27).
The Cannon Ballers took an early lead in the first inning on a two-out, two-run single by Grayson Fitzwater, making it 2-0.
Kannapolis capitalized on a Delmarva error in the fourth to take a 3-0 advantage.
The Shorebirds scored their first run in the fifth on an RBI groundout by Jhomnardo Reyes, who scored Joshua Liranzo to make it 3-1.
In the seventh, Kannapolis added two insurance runs on a throwing error, putting Delmarva behind 5-1.
An inning later, the Cannon Ballers extended their lead to its largest with an RBI groundout by Jaden Fauske, making it 6-1.
Delmarva scored one run in the top of the ninth on an RBI single by Eric Booth Jr., but it was not enough, as the Shorebirds were defeated 6-2.
Fidel Montero (2-0) earned the win for Kannapolis, while Brandon Downer (1-2) took the loss for Delmarva.
The Shorebirds look to bounce back and even the series on Wednesday, as Iziah Salinas makes his Single-A and professional debut against Truman Pauley. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
