Bulls Take Back Control in 7-0 Slugfest

Durham, NC --- Mason Englert threw six one-hit innings while Caden Bodine connected for his first two Triple-A home runs as the Durham Bulls blanked the Norfolk Tides 7-0 before 7,349 fans at the DBAP on Friday night.

Englert (W, 2-6) won his second straight start, fanning nine and only permitting a sixth inning single. Bodine clubbed his first home run to right field as a left-handed batter in the sixth, then hit a two-run shot in the seventh right-handed, ultimately handing Durham a 7-0 lead.

Victor Mesa Jr. hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning, his second in his last two games of his major league rehab.

Englert needed just 75 pitches to last six innings, matching his longest start of the season. After a leadoff walk in the second, Englert retired the next 12 batters before a clean single to left by Sam Huff broke up the no-hitter.

Bodine finished 3-4 with two homers and three RBI, while Tre Morgan, Mesa Jr., Nick Madrigal each had two hits in the Bulls win.

Joe Boyle (1-6, 8.94) is expected to start on Saturday night against former Bull Michael Forret (0-1, 7.36) at 6:45 PM ET.

Notes: Bodine has driven in four runs in his first three Triple-A games and has a combined 94 RBI across four levels of MiLB this season... Mesa Jr.'s homer in the seventh was originally ruled in play before being overturned into a home run. Norfolk left fielder Enrique Bradfield was ejected by third base umpire Kellen Martin after the call was reversed. Center fielder Jud Fabian leaped to attempt to catch Mesa Jr.'s drive, which did appear to hit over the yellow line and deflect back onto the field after hitting the landing area.... Cole Sulser, who is expected to throw back-to-back games from the bullpen Friday and Saturday as part of his Rays' rehab, used 15 pitches to face four batters in the ninth before Steven Wilson entered to record the game's final out. Sulser allowed two hits and struck out two... Brody Hopkins blew through a perfect seventh inning, retiring the side on nine pitches, eight strikes and reaching 100mph with his fastball three times.
