RoughRiders surrender lead late in loss to Amarillo

FRISCO, Texas (September 5, 2026) - After leading 5-1 following the fourth inning, the Frisco RoughRiders fell 6-5 to the Amarillo Sod Poodles Saturday night at Riders Field.

In the first inning, Amarillo (36-26, 72-58) scored to start on a Ben McLaughlin RBI double. Frisco (30-32, 69-61) responded with RBI singles from Marcus Lee Sang and Keith Jones II to take a 2-1 lead.

Then, to begin the bottom of the fourth, the Riders got three consecutive doubles from Yeison Morrobel, Malcolm Moore and Gleider Figuereo. Rafe Perich drew a bases-loaded walk too to give Frisco a 5-1 advantage before Logan Mercado (5- 2) took over and stranded the bases loaded.

With three runs in the fifth, Amarillo drew it to a one-run game and then took the lead with an Angel Ortiz solo home run in the seventh and a Jean Walter RBI groundout in the eighth against Wily Villar (0-1). Carlos Rey secured the final five outs for the Sod Poodles to earn his seventh save.

Notes to Know:

• Figuereo had two hits, including his RBI double and now has seven hits in his first three Double-A games.

• Kai Wynyard returned to Double-A with a scoreless top of the ninth inning.

The series continues Sunday night at Riders Field, as Frisco faces RHP David Hagaman (1-1, 2.52) in a 2:05 p.m. start. The Riders have not yet announced a probable starting pitcher.
