Jorge Steals 50th Base, Thomas Homers & Flesland III Fires Six Scoreless in Win
Manchester, NH- Stu Flesland III fired six scoreless innings, and was backed by six runs, as the Hartford Yard Goats beat the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 6-2 on Sunday afternoon at Delta Dental Stadium in Manchester, New Hampshire. Flesland got help from double plays in each of the first three innings and went on to retired eight of the final nine batters faced over six shutout innings to record his fourth win. Dyan Jorge became the first ever Yard Goats player to steal 50 bases when he swiped second base in the seventh inning. He also extended his hit-streak to eight consecutive games. Jared Thomas cranked a two-run homer and Jacob Humphrey added two hits as Hartford won the series taking four of six games. The Yard Goats return to Dunkin’ Park for the final homestand of the regular season on Tuesday night (6:30 PM) against the Reading Fightin Phils.
The Yard Goats took a 2-0 lead in the second inning as Jared Thomas cranked a two-run home run off Fisher Cats starter Austin Cates. Thomas’ second homer since getting active from the IL was blasted down the right field line on out into the street.
The Fisher Cats had runners on base against Hartford starter Stu Flesland II in each of the first four innings but could not get the clutch hit. The Yard Goats infield turned double plays in each of the first three innings to hold the lead. Flesland left with a 3-0 lead after six shutout innings.
The Yard Goats got a run in the seventh inning to make it a 3-0 game when Dyan Jorge scored on a grounder by Jimmy Obertop. New Hampshire got its first run in the seventh inning on Carter Cunningham’s solo homer off reliever Fisher Jameson. Jameson worked the final three innings to earn his first Eastern League save.
Hartford added two runs in the eighth inning to make it a 5-1 contest. Jacob Humphrey led off the inning with a single, stole second base and scored on a bauk. Later in the inning, Dyan Jorge’s sac fly brought home Braylen Wimmer giving the Rockies affiliate a four-run lead.
The Yard Goats return to Dunkin’ Park for the final homestand of the regular season on Tuesday night (6:30 PM) against the Reading Fightin Phils. The game will be broadcast on the free Audacy App, iHeartRadio app, Yard Goats website and streamed on MiLB.TV.
