Game Summary: Playing in extra innings for the second straight game and third time this week, the Oklahoma City Comets made a pair of game-saving defensive plays to outlast the Round Rock Express, 2-1, in 11 innings Saturday night at Dell Diamond. The Comets (38-24/79-57) scored in the fourth inning on RBI single from Eliezer Alfonzo. OKC stayed ahead, 1-0, until Round Rock (33-29/64-73) tied the game with two outs in the seventh inning. The game stayed tied, 1-1, through nine innings. After the Comets came up empty in the top of the 10th inning, Round Rock had the winning run at third base with one out. Julian Brock hit a fly ball to shallow right field caught by James Tibbs III, who then threw out Keyber Rodriguez at home plate for an inning-ending double play. The Comets took the lead in the 11th inning on a Ryan Fitzgerald sacrifice fly. With one out in the bottom of the 11th inning, left fielder Chris Newell made a diving catch and doubled off Brock at second base to end the game.

Of Note:

-The Comets have won eight straight games and nine of their last 10 contests. For the first time in the Bricktown era (since 1998), OKC notched multiple winning streaks of at least eight games.

-With a win by Sugar Land, the Comets are still tied with the Space Cowboys at 38-24 atop the PCL second-half standings with 13 games remaining…At 79-57 overall, the Comets are a season-best 22 games above .500.

-Among the eight straight wins, seven have been last at-bat wins, including Saturday. In addition to seven of the last eight games, eight of the last 11 games and nine of the last 13 games have been decided in a team’s final at-bat.

-Oklahoma City played extra innings on consecutive days for the first time since Sept. 10-11, 2024 vs. Tacoma. It’s also the first time the Comets have played in three extra-inning games in the same series since June 25-27, 2016 vs. Iowa. In addition, four of the last eight games, six of the last 13 games and seven of the last 15 games have been extra-inning contests...The Comets have won four straight extra-inning games.

-The Comets have started a series with a 5-0 lead for the first time since a six-game series sweep May 9-14, 2023 at Round Rock.

-The Comets won their ninth straight game at Dell Diamond and have taken 10 of 11 games at the venue this season.

-Ryan Fitzgerald finished 1-for-4 with a RBI to continue a 12-game hitting streak. He’s 17-for-46 (.370) with eight extra-base hits and 11 RBI during the streak. Fitzgerald matched his career-best hitting streak set May 1-17 earlier this year. He is one game away from matching the longest hitting streak by a Comet this season

-Coming off a 2-for-2 night Friday, Eliezer Alfonzo began Saturday’s contest with two straight hits, finishing 2-for-5 with an RBI. The catcher is on a five-game hitting streak, going 8-for-18 (.444) with two extra-base hits and five RBI.

-James Tibbs III went 2-for-4 with a double and a walk. He’s collected a hit in all five games this week, going 6-for-22 with three extra-base hits and two RBI. Tibbs hit his 30th double of the season, becoming the fourth PCL hitter and second Comet (Ryan Fitzgerald) to reach the mark this season.
