Comets Win 10th Straight Game, Take Sole Possession of First Place in Second Half

Game Summary: Led by a four-hit game from Zach Ehrhard, the Oklahoma City Comets extended their winning streak to 10 games with a 7-4 victory over the Sugar Land Space Cowboys Tuesday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. Oklahoma City (40-24/81-57) opened the scoring in the fourth inning with a two-run single from Chris Newell for his first Triple-A RBI. The Comets added another run in the fifth inning on a solo blast from Ehrhard that narrowly stayed fair down the left field line. Sugar Land (39-25/71-67) scored a pair of runs in the seventh inning on a fielder’s choice followed by a sacrifice fly. The Comets responded with four two-out runs in the bottom of the seventh, scoring two on a broken-bat single from Ryan Ward followed by a two-run homer by Ryan Fitzgerald. The Space Cowboys put together another two-run frame in the eighth on a homer by Zach Cole as Oklahoma City went on to take sole possession of first place in the Pacific Coast League second half standings.

Of Note:

-The Comets extended their winning streak to a season-best 10 games for the team’s first double-digit winning streak since May 9-19, 2023 and for the longest winning streak in the Pacific Coast League this season. OKC is currently riding its third double-digit winning streak in the Bricktown era.

-Oklahoma City moved into first place and one game ahead of second-place Sugar Land with 11 games remaining in the PCL second half…The Comets are now a season-best 24 games above .500.

-With his 20th home run of the season, Zach Ehrhard became the third Oklahoma City hitter in the Bricktown era to record 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases in a season, joining Nelson Cruz (2008) and Ryan Noda (2022)…Ehrhard finished Tuesday’s contest 4-for-4 with a home run and his 26th stolen base of the season. He matched his season-high in hits for the third time and first time since May 27 at Sugar Land…With 107 runs scored this season, Ehrhard surpassed Drew Avans (2024) for second in the Bricktown era.

-Ryan Fitzgerald belted his 14th homer of the season as part of a 2-for-4 game with two RBI. He became the third Comets hitter to reach the 90-RBI mark, joining James Tibbs III and Zach Ehrhard, who also reached the total Tuesday. This is the first time in Oklahoma City history three different hitters have at least 90 RBI in the same season.

-James Tibbs III became the first Oklahoma City hitter in the Bricktown era to draw 100 walks in a season. He also joined Kane Kepley (CHC) as the only minor leaguers to record 100 walks and 100 runs scored this season.

-Ryan Ward played in his 502nd career game in an Oklahoma City uniform, tying Kelly Dransfeldt (1999-2002) for the most in the Bricktown era. He finished 1-for-4 with two RBI, driving in multiple runs for the first time since Aug. 16 vs. Albuquerque.

-Alek Thomas went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk to extend his hitting streak to a season-best nine games. He’s 10-for-37 with six extra-base hits and eight RBI during the longest current hitting streak by an OKC player.

-Cole Irvin tossed 5.0 scoreless frames with four hits, three walks and four strikeouts for his 12th victory of the season, tying Terry Clark (1998) for third in the Bricktown era. He lowered his PCL-leading ERA to 3.20. Irvin made his 26th start of the season, becoming the first Oklahoma City pitcher since 1999 to reach the total.

-Oklahoma City allowed four runs or fewer for the 10th straight game, allowing 25 runs during that span.
