Omaha Falls 4-3 to Iowa in Extra Innings

DES MOINES, IOWA – The Omaha Storm Chasers (25-28/58-69) fell 4-3 to the Iowa Cubs (25-30/65-72) in extra innings on Friday night. Carson Roccaforte went 3-for-3 with a homer, but Omaha couldn’t hold on for the comeback win.

On the first pitch of the game, Gavin Cross hit an opposite field home run to give the Storm Chasers a 1-0 lead, but in the bottom of the 1st inning, the Cubs got a leadoff home run of their own off Omaha starter Hunter Patteson to tie the game 1-1.

Patteson then allowed an RBI double in the bottom of the 2nd inning to give Iowa a 2-1 lead, but he came back with a scoreless frame in the 3rd and 4th innings to keep it a 1-run game.

The Storm Chasers then turned to Ben Sears for the bottom of the 5th inning, and he worked back-to-back scoreless frames in the 5th and 6th innings.

Roccaforte tied the game 2-2 with a one-out solo home run in the top of the 7th inning then Luke Little pitched a perfect bottom half to keep the score knotted.

The Cubs went down in order in the bottom of the 8th inning against Matt Moore, and he came back out with a 3-up, 3-down bottom of the 9th inning to send the game to extras.

In the top of the 10th inning, Drew Waters scored from second on a throwing error to make it a 3-2 Storm Chasers lead, but Scott Alexander (0-1) balked home a run and surrendered an RBI single in the bottom half to give Iowa the 4-3 victory.

The Storm Chasers will take on the Cubs again on Saturday evening at Principal Park. First pitch is scheduled for 6:08 P.M. CT and Vince Velasquez is in line to start for Omaha.
