Storm Chasers Fall 12-5 to Saints in Series Finale

PAPILLION, NEB. – The Omaha Storm Chasers (29-32/62-73) fell 12-5 to the St. Paul Saints (35-28/77-60) on Sunday in the series finale. Drew Waters went 2-for-3 with a triple and double with the Chasers hit a pair of homers but it wasn’t enough in the 7-run loss.

The Saints got on the board first, plating 3 runs in the top of the 1st inning on an RBI single, groundout and another single off Lucas Braun (3-2) to take a 3-0 lead.

St. Paul followed with 2 more runs in the top of the 2nd inning with a leadoff home run and sacrifice fly off Braun, but Jorge Alfaro picked up an RBI on a groundout in the bottom of the frame to cut the deficit to 5-1.

In the top of the 3rd inning, Mason Black took over for Braun with the bases loaded and nobody out and allowed 2 of the inherited runners to score on an RBI single and bases-loaded walk to bring the score to 7-1.

Black came back with a 1-2-3 top of the 4th inning, then Jacob Berry hit an RBI single in the bottom half to reduce St. Paul’s lead to 7-2.

Black surrendered a 3-run home run in the top of the 5th inning and an RBI single in the top of the 6th inning, then Luke Little relieved him to open the 7th inning trailing 11-2.

The Saints added one more run in the top of the 7th inning with an RBI groundout off Little, and after a scoreless top of the 8th inning, Carson Roccaforte hit a 2-run home run in the bottom of the 8th inning to bring the score to 12-4.

In the bottom of the 9th inning, Alfaro hit a leadoff home run, but the next 3 Storm Chasers went down in order, finishing the 12-5 loss.

The Storm Chasers will travel to Indianapolis to take on the Indians, as the final road series of the year begins Tuesday with first pitch of the opener scheduled for 5:35 P.M. CT and Tony Gonsolin in line to start.
