Palm Beach Beats Daytona 5-3 in Comeback Win Wednesday Night

JUPITER, FL – The Palm Beach Cardinals (31-31; 64-64) beat the Daytona Tortugas (36-25; 57-70) by a final score of 5-3 on Wednesday night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. It was their second consecutive win over the Tortugas.

Daytona immediately took the lead in the top of the first inning against Gabriel Chinchilla. Sherman Johnson led off the game with a solo home run to left field. Later in the inning, Rafhlmil Torres hit an RBI double to right field, which gave Daytona a 2-0 lead.

Palm Beach immediately responded in the bottom of the first inning. After Sebastian Dos Santos walked and Miguel Hernandez singled, Alexander Frias plated the first Cardinals run of the game with an RBI single. This cut the Tortugas’ lead to 2-1.

Chinchilla settled into his start and finished 2 2/3 innings with two runs allowed and four strikeouts. JR Fordham took over in the top of the third inning and tossed two shutout innings where he struck out three Tortugas.

In the top of the fifth inning, Kaden Echeman took over for the Cardinals. He walked in a run in the fifth, which gave Daytona a 3-1 lead. However, he bounced back for a shutout-down top of the sixth inning.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Cardinals took the lead against Daytona reliever Dusty Revis (L, 1-6). Ryan Mitchell and Dee Kennedy hit one-out singles, and Owen Henne hit an RBI double down the right field line. It was one of two doubles he hit in the game, part of a 2-for-4 night.

Matthew Miura followed with an game-tying RBI single to right field. Gabe Camacho put the Cardinals ahead with the fifth straight Palm Beach hit, an RBI single to right field, which gave the Cardinals a 4-3 lead.

JP Cabrera gave Palm Beach a 5-3 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning with an RBI single to left field.

Jesús García (W, 5-1) entered the game with two outs in the top of the sixth inning and set down 10 consecutive Tortugas to close out the game. He struck out a pair of hitters in his season-high 3 1/3 innings to close out a 5-3 win for the Cardinals.
