Perfect in Pink: RailRiders Smoke 'Pigs 9-2

MOOSIC, PA (September 4, 2026) – The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders defeated the Lehigh Valley IronPigs 9-2 Friday night at PNC Field. The RailRiders fell behind early, but took a second-inning lead they would not relinquish. It marks their fourth straight victory over Lehigh Valley and now a share of first place in the International League standings.

The IronPigs jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first. Christian Cairo and Keaton Anthony homered off Yankees #13 Prospect Kyle Carr, giving Lehigh Valley a 2-0 edge. With two outs, Carter Kieboom was tagged out at home by J.C. Escarra on a frozen rope from center fielder Jarred Kelenick, limiting the damage.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre drove in six runs in the bottom of the second, recording a season-high for hits in an inning, to take the lead. Oswaldo Cabrera led off with a bunt single, and back-to-back RBI doubles from Yanquiel Fernández and Ernesto Martínez Jr. tied the game at two. Later in the frame, Anthony Volpe smashed his 11th homer of the year to put Scranton/Wilkes-Barre ahead 4-2. After a pair of singles from Jasson Domínguez and Escarra, Marco Luciano and Cabrera each laced RBI singles to complete the eight-hit, six-run outburst.

The RailRiders extended the advantage in the bottom of the sixth. Volpe doubled and Domínguez singled, before an Escarra sacrifice fly plated the seventh run to give SWB a five-run cushion.

Kelenick lifted his first homer as a RailRider in the bottom of the seventh, becoming the 30th Scranton/Wilkes-Barre player to homer this season. His two-run blast to right-center field scored Schuemann for a 9-2 lead.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre had base runners in every inning, and every batter in the lineup reached safely as five RailRiders recorded multiple hits. Over the last three games, SWB has outscored Lehigh Valley 38-7, torching the Pigs for 54 hits.

Carr allowed two runs on five hits in 2.1 innings of work. Hayden Merda (1-0) struck out a season-high six batters in 2.2 innings for the win. Zach Messinger and Eric Reyzelman each pitched two scoreless frames in relief. Brian Keller (1-5) started for the IronPigs, surrendering six runs on 11 hits over 2.2 frames in the loss.
