After scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning, the Comets struck again in the second. A walk and a single put two runners on base for Zach Ehrhard, who delivered an RBI single to left field to extend Oklahoma City’s lead to 4-0.

RHP Jackson Nezuh entered from the bullpen for Sugar Land with two outs and the bases loaded in the second inning and induced a line drive to left field, which Zach Cole made a diving catch on to end the inning and strand all three runners.

The Space Cowboys threatened in the top of the third inning when César Salazar singled before Brice Matthews worked a walk to put two runners on base with one out for Sugar Land. However, a popout and a strikeout ended the inning, leaving both runners stranded.

Including the last out in the second, Nezuh retired the first eight batters he faced in a row before surrendering a single. After allowing the hit, Nezuh bounced back by striking out the final two batters in the fifth as he tossed 3.1 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit while striking out six.

RHP Kai-Wei Teng entered in relief for the Space Cowboys in the sixth inning and needed just 14 pitches, to strike out the side and toss a perfect frame keeping Sugar Land within four runs.

Oklahoma City plated a run in the seventh inning before breaking the game open in the eighth. A double and a single put runners on the corners with two outs before Chadwick Tromp hit a three-run home run to left field, extending the Comets’ advantage to 8-0.

RHP Kyle Hurt entered in the top of the ninth inning for Oklahoma City and induced two straight groundouts before Lucas Spence doubled to put a runner in scoring position for the Space Cowboys. A wild pitch advanced Spence to third but Hurt struck out the next batter to end the game.

NOTABLE:

RHP Jackson Nezuh tossed 3.1 scoreless innings on Thursday evening, allowing just one hit while striking out six. Since transitioning to the bullpen on September 1, Nezuh has yet to allow a run across three appearances, tossing 5.1 scoreless innings while surrendering just two hits and one walk and striking out seven.
RHP Kai-Wei Teng made his first appearance with the Space Cowboys since being optioned to Sugar Land on September 6 and needed just 14 pitches, 10 for strikes, to toss a perfect sixth inning, striking out the side.
Pascanel Ferreras went 2-for-4 on Thursday night, marking his ninth multi-hit game in his last 13 contests. Ferreras now has 27 multi-hit games this season with Sugar Land, the most of any Space Cowboys player in 2026.
After being placed on the injured list on July 14 with a left knee sprain, OF Brice Matthews made his first appearance of the season with the Space Cowboys on a Major League rehab assignment and went 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout, playing all eight innings in the field in center..

The Space Cowboys continue their six-game set with the Comets on Friday evening. RHP Bryce Mayer is set to take the mound for Sugar Land while Oklahoma City will throw LHP Charlie Barnes.
