Rainiers Fall 10-6 In Series Finale to Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, NM (September 6, 2026) — After tying the game in the top of the eighth, the Tacoma Rainiers (33-30/66-72) fell 10-6 to the Albuquerque Isotopes (29-35/67-71) in the series finale at Isotopes Park. Axel Sanchez led the Tacoma offense with three hits while he and Ryan Bliss both drove in two runs. Leo Rivas went 2-for-4 with two walks in the contest, extending his on-base streak to 21 games.

Tacoma jumped out to an early three-run lead in the top of the second inning. Victor Labrada and Nick Raposo worked back-to-back walks to lead off the frame and the pair advanced 90 feet when Miles Mastrobuoni grounded out to first. Then, Axel Sanchez singled on a line drive to left field, pushing Raposo up to third and plating Labrada to put the Rainiers up 1-0. The next batter, Ryan Bliss, brought home Raposo with a sacrifice fly to deep left field, doubling the lead. Leo Rivas kept the inning alive with a single into right field, moving Sanchez up to third. Andy Ibáñez capped it off with a single into left-center field, scoring Sanchez to make it 3-0.

Albuquerque responded with five runs in the home half of the third inning. Bryant Betancourt dropped a lead off single into right field and advanced to second two batters later when Drew Avans lined a single into center field. Then, Nic Kent was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Sterlin Thompson. Thompson walked on four pitches, bringing home Betancourt to get the Isotopes on the board and make it 3-1. The next batter, Charlie Condon (24), crushed a grand-slam over the left-center field wall to give Albuquerque a 5-3 lead.

The Isotopes added a run in the fourth inning. With two outs, Thompson singled on a flyball to left field and stole second base to get into scoring position. Then, Condon pulled a double down the left field line, plating Thompson to make it 6-3.

The Rainiers cut into the deficit in the top of the fifth inning with four straight two-out hits. Mastrobuoni got the rally started with a single through the right side of the infield. Sanchez followed by beating out an infield single and then, Bliss laced a single into right-center field. Sanchez stopped at third as Mastrobuoni came around to score, making it 6-4. Rivas ripped the fourth single of the frame into right field, scoring Sanchez to bring Tacoma within one.

Albuquerque threatened to blow the game open in the seventh inning. Thompson and Condon hit back-to-back singles to lead off the frame and two batters later, Edouard Julien walked to load the bases with one out. Robinson Ortiz escaped the jam by striking out Braxton Fulford and getting Betancourt to pop out in foul territory.

Tacoma evened it up in the top of the eighth inning. Willie MacIver worked a leadoff walk and advanced to second when Labrada smacked a single into left field. After Raposo struck out and Mastrobuoni flied out, Sanchez smoked a single into center field, plating MacIver to tie the game at six.

The Isotopes immediately regained the lead in the home half of the ninth inning. Conner Capel pulled a double into left field to lead off the frame and moved up to third when Drew Avans laid down a sacrifice bunt. Nick Kent walked and Thompson was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out. Then, Condon (25) hit his second grand-slam of the game to give Albuquerque a 10-6 lead.

The Rainiers were set down in order at the top of the ninth inning, falling 10-6 to the Isotopes on Sunday afternoon.

Tacoma will head back to Cheney Stadium to start a six-game set with the El Paso Chihuahuas on Tuesday and first pitch scheduled for 12:05 PM.

POSTGAME NOTES:

  • Tacoma left 16 runners on-base Sunday, the most in a game this season…the last time the Rainiers stranded 16 runners came on September 13, 2025, in Salt Lake.

  • INF Axel Sanchez turned in his first three-hit game with Tacoma out of the ninth spot in the order Sunday afternoon, finishing 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored…the Rainiers are now hitting .289 out of the nine-hole this season, the best in Triple-A and second-best among all full-season minor league teams.

  • INF Leo Rivas extended his on-base streak to 21 games Sunday, finishing 2-for-4 with two walks and an RBI…it’s his longest on-base streak since reaching safely 23 times from June 15-July 11, 2025, with Tacoma…since the streak started on May 22, Rivas holds a .446 OBP.

  • C Willie MacIver doubled off LHP Ethan Shawver in the seventh inning, improving his average against left-handed pitching to .386 this season…MacIver leads all Triple-A catchers with a .386/.511/.657 slashline, a 1.168 OPS and 27 hits off of southpaws (min. 60 PA).
