Rainiers Win Sixth Straight with 5-2 Victory Over Isotopes in 10 Innings

ALBUQUERQUE, NM (September 2, 2026) — The Tacoma Rainiers (31-28/64-70) secure sixth straight victory with 5-2 win over the Albuquerque Isotopes (26-33/65-69) in 10 innings on Wednesday night at Isotopes Park. The Rainiers scored three runs in extra innings to secure their 10th win in the last 11 games. Miles Mastrobuoni went 2-for-4 with a double in Wednesday’s win, his fifth consecutive game with a hit while Seth Shuman earned the winning decision after recording 2.0 perfect innings over the final two frames.

Troy Watson got the ball to start game two of the series in what was a bullpen game for the Rainiers. Watson faced just one over the minimum over 3.0 innings of work to start Wednesday’s matchup, recording four strikeouts to keep the Isotopes off the board. Watson needed just 34 pitches in his start, 26 of which went for strikes.

The pitcher’s duel continued over the first three frames as the Isotopes starter, Jake Brooks, held Tacoma scoreless, allowing a pair of baserunners in that span. In the top of the fourth inning, Leo Rivas reached on a hit by pitch before Michael Arroyo singled to put two aboard. Stuart Fairchild put Tacoma on the board with a single to center field to score Rivas and give Tacoma a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Scott Effross took over on the mound for the Rainiers and went on to retire the side in order to keep Tacoma in front. In the top of the fifth inning, Albuquerque tied the game at one apiece. Roc Riggio led off the inning with a double before a single from Nic Kent brought him in to tie the game at one.

Reid Van Scoter continued the bullpen game for Tacoma in the bottom of the sixth inning and worked around traffic to keep the game tied. In the top of the seventh inning, Tacoma threatened with a one-out single from Miles Mastrobuoni. Mastrobuoni advanced to second on a balk with Willie MacIver at the plate but Albuquerque went to the bullpen for the first time and turned to Valente Bellozo who was able to get Ryan Bliss to pop out to second base to end the inning and keep the game tied. With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Troy Taylor took over on the mound and recorded the final two outs to keep the duel going.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Jose Cordova led off the frame with a single before Drew Avans reached on a force out to replace Cordova at first base. Tyler Freeman singled and advanced on the throw to put two in scoring position before Vimael Machín was intentionally walked to load the bases. Charlie Condon was called out on strikes to keep the bases loaded but Roc Riggio was able to work a walk, driving in the go-ahead run and the Isotopes led for the first time, 2-1.

In the top of the ninth inning, Fairchild worked a walk to lead off the inning. Andy Ibanez singled to left field advancing Fairchild to scoring position before MacIver walked to load the bases. A wild pitch would allow Fairchild to score and Tacoma tied the game at two.

In the bottom of the ninth, Seth Shuman came in and set down Albuquerque in order to force extra innings. In the tenth, Tacoma promptly took the lead. With Bliss stationed at second base to start the frame, walks from Rivas and Michael Arroyo quickly loaded the bases. Nolan Jones gave Tacoma the lead with a sacrifice fly to center field, 3-2. Fairchild was intentionally walked to load the bases once again and allowed Victor Labrada to bring in another run after grounding into a force out. Tacoma added one more run of insurance when Labrada broke for second base (20) allowing Arroyo to score on a throwing error from the catcher, Braxton Fulford, and the Rainiers led, 5-2.

Shuman continued on the mound in the bottom of the frame and set down the Isotopes in order once again, retiring all six that he faced to secure the extra-inning victory and Tacoma won 5-2 in game two.

The six-game series with the Isotopes will continue with game three tomorrow. Tacoma will send RHP Carson Fulmer to the mound with first pitch slated for 11:05 AM (PST).

• The Rainiers picked up their sixth win of the season when trailing in the ninth inning, and second in three games (August 30 vs. Salt Lake)…Tacoma’s six wins when trailing after eight innings are their most in a season since six such wins in 2022

• INF Miles Mastrobuoni went 2-for-4 with a double in Wednesday’s win, his fifth consecutive game with a hit…over his five-game streak, Mastrobuoni is hitting .444 (8x18) with two doubles and a home run

• Tacoma’s win on Wednesday was their sixth in a row and 10th in their last 11 games…it’s Tacoma’s longest winning streak since winning seven straight from May 25-June 1, 2025…it’s also the third time Tacoma has taken a 2-0 series lead on the road this season (also: April 7-8 at Sugar Land and June 2-3 at Sacramento)
