Peoria, IL: The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers won four out of six games against the Peoria Chiefs at Dozer Park last week. The Rattlers come home holding a two-game lead for first place in the Midwest League West Division with a record of 19-12.

The Rattlers dropped two of the first three games in the series falling 5-3 on Tuesday , winning 8-5 on Wednesday, and losing a heart-breaker 7-6 on Thursday. Wisconsin found their footing over the final three games as the bats battered Peoria pitchers all weekend long, winning 12-7 on Friday, 7-5 on Saturday and 15-8 on Sunday.

The Rattlers have a road record of 13-5 and have not lost a series away from home this season. The team is also 7-4 against the Chiefs with seven games remaining between the two teams in the first half.

Wisconsin squandered few opportunities last week. They hit .304 as a team with runners in scoring position and an overall team batting average of .283. Power continued to play a factor, crushing ten home runs, 14 doubles and a pair of triples.

Many of those extra base hits were showcased on Sunday, where nine extra base hits (four doubles, three home runs, and two triples) contributed to the dominating win. The offense additionally knocked ten singles, which brought the team hit column to 19 total, the most by a Timber Rattler team in a single game since switching to High-A Classification in 2021.

Andrew Fischer, who was named the Midwest League Player of the Week on Monday, provided frequent run support. Fischer had nine hits - six for extra bases, including three home runs, seven RBI, eight runs scored and 22 total bases during the series. Fischer’s week was capped off by a strong Sunday showing, launching two home runs in his four-hit and five-RBI afternoon, his second multi-homer game this season.

Eric Bitonti also had a stellar Sunday for the Rattlers. The left-handed first baseman had a 5-for-5 day at the plate, becoming the first Rattler with five base hits in a game since Sal Frelick’s performance against Quad Cities on April 20, 2022. Bitonti reached base six times with two singles, two doubles, a homer, and a walk. He also scored three runs and drove in a pair.

The Rattlers previewed that power in the Wednesday win, where four solo home runs elevated the team back on track. Included in the dinger derby were back-to-back home runs from Fischer and Josh Adamczewski. The Rattlers have now hit homers in consecutive at bats four times this season. Tayden Hall and Josiah Ragsdale also went yard in the game.

The Rattlers avenged their walkoff loss on Thursday by splurging on eight runs in the third inning on Friday. Those were the most in a frame by the team this season. The team tacked on four more in the fourth inning, allowing the pitching to work with ease the rest of the night.

Timely bats were key in Saturday’s come from behind win. The Rattlers trailed 5-1 through six innings. In the seventh inning, Luis Castillo’s two-run home run and Marco Dinges’ three-run homer flipped the game to Wisconsin’s favor. Relief pitching took it from there, as winning pitcher Quinten Low and Yerlin Rodriguez, who earned the save, combined to allow one hit and no runs over the final 3-⅓ innings.

The pitching staff had a commanding week, issuing 63 strikeouts to 23 walks (2.70 K/BB). Yorman Galindez had nine strikeouts on Thursday. Chandler Welch pitched twice in the series with a four-inning start on Tuesday for a tough-luck loss and four innings in relief to earn the win on Sunday.

Travis Smith and Wande Torres also added a win to their pitching records. Smith is 5-0 on the season and has picked up the win in his last four appearances.

Jack Seppings provided a 3.1 inning scoreless save on Wednesday, and Bjorn Johnson’s three innings of relief work slammed the door for a save on Friday.

Fischer wasn’t the only Timber Rattler to have a big week at the plate.

Luiyin Alastre had a .476 series batting average to go with his six RBI. Dinges provided six RBI of his own, while Blyberg Diaz drove in five on four hits, going 3-for-5 with runners in scoring position. Adamczewski drove in four with two doubles and two homers, bringing his season home run total vs. Peoria to six. Ragsdale scored seven times, stole five bases and drove in four.

The Rattlers return action at Neuroscience Group Field on Tuesday, for a six game set against the South Bend Cubs, with the teams meeting for the first time this season.
