Baysox Win Third Consecutive Game Over Flying Squirrels in Rain-Ravaged Thursday Night

Richmond, VA (September 10, 2026) – The Chesapeake Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, took down the Richmond Flying Squirrels, the Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, by an 8-2 final on Thursday night.
Chesapeake (37-28, 66-67) outlasted Richmond after a 74-minute rain delay interrupted action in the top of the fifth inning on Thursday. Prior to the delay, the Baysox grabbed a 3-1 lead. Right-handed starter Anthony Eyanson struck out seven in four innings in his last scheduled start for Chesapeake in 2026. Eyanson allowed his lone run on a second-inning solo homer to Richmond’s Sabin Ceballos. The right-hander escaped a first-and-third, one-out jam later in the second by snagging a one-hopper hit back to the mound to begin an inning-ending double play. A one out double put runners at second and third in the third for the Flying Squirrels, but Eyanson struck out the next two batters to strand them both. The Orioles’ top pitching prospect struck out the final five batters he faced on Thursday, after striking out the side in the fourth.

The first seven Chesapeake hitters were retired by Richmond right-handed starter Niko Mazza. In the top of the third, Tavian Josenberger doubled with one out, following a walk to Edwin Amparo, Frederick Bencosme launched a three-run homer to the opposite field. Bencosme’s thirteenth homer of the season just snuck over the wall in left to give the Baysox their lead.

Anderson De Los Santos led off the fifth with a double – the game’s final action before the weather delay began. De Los Santos scored out of the stoppage on consecutive groundouts, including the first Double-A RBI for Amparo. The run scored to the line of Mazza (L, 0-2).
The Baysox added a run in the sixth and seventh innings via a bases loaded walk to Josenberger and a bases loaded hit by pitch to Victor Figueroa. In the ninth, Bencosme reached for the fourth time via a walk, before a Griff O’Ferrall single set the table for Ethan Anderson, who cranked a two-run double to right field. The Virginia Beach-native Anderson has plated seven runs back in his home state in the first three games of the series.
Chesapeake’s bullpen allowed just one run in the game’s final five innings. Right-hander Alex Pham (W, 1-3) struck out the side in his lone inning of work. Righty Tyson Neighbors allowed just one run across two frames. Right-hander Richard Guasch worked around a leadoff double in the eighth and Jeisson Cabrera dealt a perfect bottom of the ninth inning.
The Baysox continue their final series of the 2026 season in Richmond on Friday night. Right-hander JT Quinn (AA: 2-0, 2.50 ERA) takes the ball for Chesapeake, against Flying Squirrels left-hander Jacob Bresnahan (AA: 0-1, 9.00 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm from CarMax Park.
