FredNats Season Comes to an End After 8-1 Loss to Fayetteville

Fredericksburg, V.A. - The Fredericksburg Nationals season came to an end tonight as they fell 8-1 to the Fayetteville Woodpeckers. Its the second straight season the FredNats are knocked out of the playoffs in the 1st round.

It was a tough night from the start. In the top of the 1st, Fayetteville took a 2-0 lead as the leadoff man Owen Nowak walked, Kam Durnin singled to bring him home and got to third on an error, then Durnin scored on a Kevin Alvarez sacrifice fly. In the 2nd, after another leadoff walk, Aruto Flores hit an RBI single to make it 3-0.

After stranding the bases loaded in the 2nd, Harmon threw a scoreless 3rd, and the FredNats had some life. Hunter Hines hit a mammoth blast into right field for the first and only home run of the series to make it 3-1.

Not long after, the Woodpeckers added on to their lead. Alvarez worked a bases loaded walk to make it 4-1 in the 5th. An inning later, Fayetteville had their biggest offensive inning of the series, plating three runs to make it 7-1. They added on another run in the 8th to make it 8-1.

The loss marks the end of a historic season for the Fredericksburg Nationals. The FredNats broke the wins record in the regular season in the Fredericksburg era, with 80 wins. It was an extremely successful first season for manager Chris O’Neill filled with offensive records broken. The FredNats will be back at it in 2027!
