What's New at Principal Park

Covid-19 Policies

Updated 4/15/21

The parking lots surrounding Principal Park will be available to fans during the 2021 Iowa Cubs season. All parking for Iowa Cubs games is $12 per car, and all spots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Tailgating in the Iowa Cubs parking lots will be allowed in 2021.Please note that grass berm areas along 2nd Avenue have been disturbed by construction work on the levee system. This work will limit available space for tailgating.
  • Parking spots are to be used for parked cars only. Fans are prohibited from blocking spots or taking up parking spots with tailgating activities.
  • Grills are permitted in Iowa Cubs parking lots, but are limited to the grass areas surrounding the lots.

Due to necessary work by the City of Des Moines, certain areas of the parking lots and surrounding spaces may be limited on game days throughout the season. These closures may change throughout the season as the work progresses. Please use the map below to familiarize yourself with the available entrances and spaces prior to your arrival at the ballpark.

For decades, the core philosophy of our organization was to do everything we could to make the ballpark “Clean, Safe and Fun” in that order. To achieve that goal, our staff has always followed a thorough cleaning protocol. Moving forward, we will continue to do the things that we’ve always done and add some extra steps specific to the guidelines currently established by the CDC and governing bodies.

WHAT WE’VE ALWAYS DONE:

  • Thorough cleaning of restrooms and concession stands before every public event
  • Thorough removal and safe disposal of trash away from public areas
  • Periodic pressure washing of concourse and seating bowl during the year
  • Daily high-intensity hosing of all seating areas and concourse
  • Daily vacuum and surface cleaning in every skybox suite
  • Daily surface cleaning of doors and hand rails plus mopping of floors in reception lobby and interior stairwell
  • Provide free access to hand sanitizing stations throughout the concourse

NEW PROCEDURES WE ARE ADDING:

  • Following general cleaning, we will use eco-friendly sanitizing spray before and after every event in all restrooms, concession stands, dugouts and elevators
  • Approximately once per hour, a staff member will wipe down frequently used surfaces in each restroom while the gates are open for an event
  • Water fountains and self-service water stations will not be available
  • If a game in progress is delayed by weather and fans choose to, or are directed to leave the main grandstand, safe social distancing should still be maintained throughout the concourse area. In these cases only, fans will be allowed to leave the stadium to maintain distancing and return when the game is resumed. Fans will have to pass back through the metal detectors on re-entry, but their original ticket will be valid. Re-entry will not be allowed under any other circumstance.

The Iowa Cubs Team Store will be open during events. Please follow the following guidelines when shopping the Team Store:

  • Access to the Team Store will only be allowed through the concourse behind home plate. There will be no entry or exit through the main lobby at Gate C.
  • Cash will NOT be accepted. We will accept debit or credit payments only. Two reverse ATM machines will be available inside Principal Park near the Cambria Fan Services Center behind home plate. At those machines, fans can exchange cash for a pre-paid Mastercard debit card that is good not only at Principal Park, but anywhere in the United States that Mastercard is accepted.

The Iowa Cubs welcome media coverage for any open event. Please observe the following guidelines for credentials and access:

  • All credential requests should be submitted in advance to Iowa Cubs Media Relations Manager Colin Connolly. Requests should be submitted by email to colinc@iowacubs.com.
  • All working media should enter at Gate C and show credentials at reception desk before entering stadium or press box.
  • Camera access will be limited to a one person per photo well in each dugout (not including the working member or the Iowa Cubs Video Team).
  • *_Press box food and drink access is subject to availability. *_Credentialed media members will be allowed to bring in their own water bottles if needed. Available press box food and drinks may be taken out of the press box to allow for distancing while eating.
  • No guests or public access to the video room, broadcast booths or other working areas of the press box.
