Round Rock Loses Fourth Straight in 12-Inning Marathon with Oklahoma City

HOW IT HAPPENED:

After three scoreless frames, the E-Train broke the 0-0 tie in the bottom of the fourth. 2B John Taylor was hit by a pitch and later stole second. CF Orlando Martinez worked a full count before hitting a single up the middle. Taylor came around to score for a 1-0 advantage.

Round Rock LHP Anthony Veneziano tossed 6.1 scoreless innings on Friday night. He issued just one walk and allowed one baserunner past second base.

The Comets broke through in the top of the ninth with a solo home run from LF James Tibbs III. Tibbs’ 28th home run tied the game at one and sent it to extra innings.

In the 10th, PH Eliezer Alfonzo tallied an RBI single for the Comets and Round Rock RF Alejandro Osuna tallied a sacrifice fly. Both clubs struck for one and extended the night.

The Comets plated three in the top of the 12th with an RBI double from 3B Ryan Fitzgerald followed by a two-run homer off the bat of Alfonzo. Round Rock was retired in order in the bottom of the inning, falling 5-2 on Friday night.

LHP ANTHONY VENEZIANO: (ND, 6.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 4 SO, BB, 84 pitches, 55 strikes) tossed a season-high 6.1 innings in his 4th start and 8th outing with the E-Train…marks the 4th time he’s thrown 6.1+ IP in his career and 2nd at the Triple-A level…registered Round Rock’s 12th quality start this season and 1st since LHP Dalton Pence on 8/19 at El Paso…issued 1 walk in the 2nd before retiring the side by striking out 3B Ryan Fitzgerald…allowed 1 baserunner to reach 3rd…retired the side in order in the 1st, 4th, 5th and 6th frames…his 1.76 ERA ranks 2nd among Triple-A pitchers with 4 starts and 30.0+ innings pitched this year.

RHP CARTER BAUMLER: (1.0 IP, H, 0 R, 3 SO, 12 pitches, 11 strikes) struck out the side in his 3rd appearance since being sent to Round Rock on Major League rehab on 8/30…the right-hander allowed a 1-out double off the bat of C Chadwick Tromp with an exit velocity of 80.9 mph…recorded 1st-pitch strikes to all 4 batters faced…missed 5 bats on 8 swings…struck out 2 batters with the fastball and 1 on his curveball.

EXTRA, EXTRA: Round Rock has now gone to extra innings 12 times this season…the Express are 7-5 in extras and 3-4 at Dell Diamond…the 12-inning game is Round Rock’s longest since 7/20/2025 at Las Vegas.

NOTES: The E-Train were held without an extra-base hit for the 8th time this season and 4th time against the Comets…are 1-7 in those games and 1-3 against Oklahoma City…LHP Anthony Veneziano posted Round Rock’s 12th quality start this season…the Express are 5-7 in those games.
