E-Train Fall in Extra Innings for Second Straight Night

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Comets jumped out first in the fourth inning after C Eliezer Alfonzo poked a single through left field, scoring 2B Hyeseong Kim from third to give Oklahoma City a one-run advantage. Round Rock broke the shutout with a run to tie the game in the seventh.

The Comets jumped out first in the fourth inning after C Eliezer Alfonzo poked a single through left field, scoring 2B Hyeseong Kim from third to give Oklahoma City a one-run advantage.

Round Rock broke the shutout with a run to tie the game in the seventh. LF Diego Castillo walked and RF Trevor Hauver singled to put runners at first and second with two outs. C Julian Brock roped a single to right field to score Castillo.

Neither team could push across a run in the eighth or ninth, forcing the game into extra innings.

The Comets struck first in extras as they pushed across a run in the 11th inning after a sacrifice fly from 3B Ryan Fitzgerald brought home 1B Ryan Ward. The Express could not score the tying run from second as they fell 2-1.

WHERE WE STAND: Round Rock dropped their 5th consecutive game on Saturday night…against the Comets this season, are 1-10 at Dell Diamond and 7-16 overall…are tied with Tacoma for 5th place in the Pacific Coast League standings…have lost 8 of their last 10 games since 8/26 after winning 7 of their previous 10 from 8/14-8/25… tonight’s game marks the 11th time this season the Express have been held to 1 R at home… 10th time at home to be held to 4 H or less and are 0-10 in those games.

LHP DALTON PENCE: (ND, 5.0 IP, 5 H, 1 R-ER, 3 SO, 2 BB, 76 pitches, 50 strikes) dealt 5.0 innings on Saturday night in his 6th start with Round Rock since joining the Express on 8/1 from Double-A Frisco… allowed his 1st run in 12.0 innings with an RBI single to C Eliezer Alfonzo in the 4th… was the longest active scoreless streak on the Express before the run… stranded runners on the corners to end the 3rd inning… retired the side in order in the 5th to end his outing… tonight’s outing was his 4th allowing 1 R or less… generated a strikeout with his changeup, fastball and slider…owns a 1-0 record with a 0.64 ERA over his last 3 outings.

LHP ROBERT GARCIA: tossed a scoreless inning in relief as the first man out of the bullpen on Saturday night…was added to the Round Rock roster today on a rehab assignment after being placed on the injured list with left shoulder inflammation… after allowing a single to DH Matt Gorski to start the inning, he retired the next 3 batters to end the inning… struck out two batters, one with a slider and the other with a fastball… last pitched on 4/16 against at ATH where he recorded the last out of the 6th inning with a flyout.

C JULIAN BROCK: tied the game at one apiece in the 7th with an RBI single… marks his 2nd RBI in his last 3 G (Since 8/30) after recording 3 RBI over his previous 9 G (8/2-28).

EXTRA, EXTRA: Saturday’s loss marks the E-Train’s 3rd extra-inning game this week and 13th of the season…have lost each extra-inning contest this week…are 7-6 in extras and 3-4 at Dell Diamond.
