Turning Point
Akron broke the 3-3 tie with a five run sixth. The first five reached in the inning highlighted by Alex Mooney’s two-run double and Ryan Cesarini’s three-run home run to put Akron ahead 8-3.
Mound Presence
Braylon Doughty was cruising for much of his start on Wednesday. The right-hander allowed just two base runners through the first five innings. Richmond got to Doughty for three in the sixth, but he was able to escape further damage with an inning ending ground out. In total, Doughty fired six innings allowing three runs while striking out four. Magnus Ellerts tossed a scoreless seventh. Carter Rustad worked a perfect eighth. Zane Morehouse allowed a run and struck out two in the ninth.
Duck Tales
Akron scored first on Wednesday. Mooney worked a one-out walk in the third before being balked to second and stealing third. Jaison Chourio singled him home to make it 1-0 RubberDucks. Akron added on in the fifth when Jace LaViolette worked a bases loaded walk and Aaron Walton followed with an RBI fielder’s choice to make it 3-0 RubberDucks. After the RubberDucks pulled ahead with the five-run sixth, they scored another four in the seventh. Mooney added another RBI double before Ryan Cesarini launched a three-run home run to make it 12-3 Akron. The final RubberDucks run came off a position player pitching in the eighth when Luke Hill doubled home Bennett Thompson.

Cesarini’s homer was 13th with Akron and 20th on the season…Mooney collected his second four-RBI game of the season…Ellerts appeared in his first game since May 27 against Richmond…Mooney and Chourio each stole a base for the second consecutive game to remain tied for the team lead with 29 this season…The RubberDucks scored double digit runs in back-to-back games for the fourth time this season and first time since July 17-18 in Binghamton…Game Time: 2:39…Attendance: 2,279.
