Omaha Scores 6 Early Runs to Defeat Indians in Series Opener

INDIANAPOLIS – Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder/first baseman Ryan O’Hearn today began a major league rehab assignment with the Indianapolis Indians and doubled in his first at-bat, but the club fell to the Omaha Storm Chasers, 6-1, on Tuesday night at Victory Field. Mitch Jebb went 1-for-4 with a walk to extend his on-base streak to 17 contests.
The Storm Chasers (30-32, 63-73) quickly jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning on a two-out, two-run double from Brett Squires. Four more Omaha runs came across in the fifth frame for a 6-0 advantage. Squires drove in his third run of the game with an RBI single, Drew Waters smashed a two-run homer and Jacob Berry doubled home Carson Roccaforte.
The Indians (36-28, 67-72) pushed their lone run across the board in the bottom of the eighth inning on an RBI single by Tyler Callihan.
Thomas Harrington (L, 2-7) allowed six runs but struck out seven across his 4.2 innings of work for the Indians. Tony Gonsolin (W, 1-1) authored 5.0 shutout stanzas for the Storm Chasers.
Indianapolis and Omaha continue this week’s six-game series, the final homestand at Victory Field this season, on Wednesday night at 6:35 PM ET. Pittsburgh’s No. 16 prospect, LHP Hunter Barco (4-7, 4.05), is scheduled to start for the Indians with RHP Henry Williams (5-4, 5.56) in line for the Storm Chasers.
